The Beauty of Family Silver

Gifts, inheritances, and even found family silver make for a great story. Here are some of the ones currently in The Shop.

Marni Jameson, a nationally published and recognized newspaper columnist, rang us a couple of weeks ago to talk about family silver and the options people have when they receive it as a gift or inherit an authentic piece of silver.

Many of you know that we work with family heirlooms daily. It’s in our blood as a family business, and we treasure every one of our customers’ treasures.

Unless you or your family took pristine care of the familial silver, there is work to be done. Please don’t throw anything that looks dusty or dingy away! We can help, just like we are doing with these things that are in The Shop right now:

Children playing together is one of the more quintessential scenes, and this mixed material piece conveys the innocence and joy of childhood. We love the whimsy here, and maybe we’re feeling a touch sentimental about our kids, but this is one of our current favorites.

There was a time when personal care gifts were the height of generosity. Over the years, we’ve had vintage brushes, mirrors, tincture vessels, and combs like this in The Shop. Each features a unique touch of silver, like this one that we’ve cleaned up and preserved.

Jewelry, of course, is one of the most personal and tangible of family heirlooms. We’ve repaired, restored, and polished rings, bracelets, necklaces, brooches, and just about anything you can imagine. This bracelet’s simple beauty and details struck us while working on it.

There’s a story that goes along with this amazing tea set, which is the hallmark of a true family heirloom. One of our regular customers brings this set to us every year to ensure it ages perfectly. While it’s hard to believe — because the family takes such great care of it — this tea set has been handed down through two generations.

We’d love to hear your story, and help maintain your precious heirlooms. If you have any questions or want to schedule a time to come in, please reach out.
